n8n workflow builder
Build, test and export automation workflows on a visual canvas, without coding. Templates, simulated runs and n8n JSON export. Free, in your browser.
How to use: n8n workflow builder
- Pick a template or add a trigger from the node library and connect each output to the next node's input.
- Select each node to name and configure it; in “Test / Demo” enter sample data and run the simulation to see what each step produces.
- In “Export” check the validation and the compatibility notes and download the JSON to import into your own n8n.
What it accepts and what you get
- Input
- A workflow from scratch, a template or an n8n .json (up to 5 MB and 200 nodes).
- Output
- A JSON file with the structure of an n8n workflow (nodes, connections and positions), a validation report and compatibility notes.
- Where your data is processed
- The editor runs in your browser: the workflow is not uploaded or stored on any server and the test is a simulation that sends no messages and calls no APIs. Only if you use the AI builder, after showing you what will be sent, a secret-free copy goes to the provider you choose, with your own key.
Limitations and notes
- Everything happens in your browser: the workflow is not uploaded or stored on a server. The local draft is only saved if you press “Save draft”, in this browser.
- The test is a simulation with sample data and allow-listed nodes: Telegram, email, HTTP and AI steps send and call NOTHING, and the Code node is never run. Passing the simulation does not prove it works with a real service.
- Nodes use core n8n types at specific versions; they have not been tested on every n8n version, so something may need adjusting on import. The “AI step” exports as an HTTP Request with placeholders.
- The AI builder is optional, uses YOUR API key (the provider may charge you) and is yet to be verified against a live provider. Its reply is validated and only this editor's nodes are accepted.
- When you import a workflow, nodes the editor does not know are kept as they are but cannot be configured or simulated here.
Frequently asked questions
Does it connect to my n8n?
No. This tool never imports into or runs anything on n8n: download the JSON and import it yourself.
Do I need an AI key?
No. Editing, the simulated test, templates and export work without a key; only the AI builder asks for yours.
When to use it
- When you want to sketch an automation before building it in n8n.
- To understand how data flows through a webhook or an IF before exporting.
- To start from a template (Telegram alert, form to email) and adapt it.
Examples
- Telegram alert
- Load the “Webhook to Telegram notification” template, change the message text and run the test to see the simulated message.
- Filter an API
- With “Filter and transform an API” change the Filter threshold and see in the test which items pass.
- Import and review
- Import an n8n .json and check the validation and compatibility notes in “Export”.
Common mistakes
- Believing the simulation sent a real message: Telegram and email only show what they would send.
- Importing the JSON without creating the credentials in n8n: Telegram and email need them.
- Leaving the webhook without authentication or with sample values (YOUR_…) when exporting.
