How to use: Background remover

  1. Choose a photo with one clear main subject (person, product, animal).
  2. Decide whether the background becomes transparent or a solid colour.
  3. Press “Remove background” (the first time it downloads the model) and download the PNG.

What it accepts and what you get

Input
A JPG, PNG or WebP image of up to 15 MB.
Output
A PNG the same size as the original, with a transparent or solid-colour background, and the share of the image the subject covers.
Where your data is processed
Your data is processed in your browser and is not sent to our servers.

Limitations and notes

  • It uses a small AI model (U²-Net-p, Apache-2.0) that runs in your browser: the image is not uploaded to any server.
  • The first time it downloads about 16 MB (engine and model); afterwards it stays in the cache.
  • Fine hair, glass, smoke and scenes with many objects can leave rough edges: always check the result.
  • It finds the most prominent subject; with several similar objects it may drop one.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the result almost empty, or nothing removed?

The model could not tell a clear subject apart. Try an image where the object or person contrasts more with the background.
