Add VAT to a price

Choose “add VAT to a net amount”, enter the amount and the rate, and copy the breakdown: net amount, VAT and total.

Good to know

  • The preset rates (21%, 10%, 4% and 0%) are Spain's general rates, as an example; check which one applies to your transaction.
  • Other rates, such as the UK's or another country's, can be entered in the custom rate field.
  • If you already have the total with VAT and want the net amount, choose “extract VAT from a total”.
  • It is a calculation aid, not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the VAT on a price?

Multiply the net amount by the rate (for example by 0.21 for 21%) and that is the VAT; the net amount plus the VAT is the total. The tool does it for you.

Which VAT rate should I use?

It depends on what you sell. The preset rates are Spain's general rates, as an example: check which one applies to your transaction or ask a professional.
