Reduce a photo's file size (in KB or MB)
When a form, an email or a website rejects a photo for being too heavy, you need an image with fewer KB. Here you recompress it in your browser and see the real file size before downloading.
Good to know
- For JPG and WebP, lower the quality control little by little and compare the resulting size until it fits.
- If it is still too heavy, also reduce the dimensions with “Resize image”: fewer pixels mean fewer KB.
- The tool does not aim for an exact size (for example 100 KB): you adjust the quality and check the result.
- Recompressing removes metadata, including the photo's location.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a photo down to exactly 100 KB?
There is no automatic size target: you adjust the quality and see the real size. If you need to go lower, also reduce the image dimensions.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The image is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.
