Remove VAT from a price

If you have a total with VAT included and need the net amount, choose “extract VAT from a total”, enter the amount and the rate, and copy the breakdown: net, tax and total.

Good to know

  • Choose whether you add VAT to a net amount or extract it from a total.
  • The suggested rates (21%, 10%, 4% and 0%) are Spain's general VAT rates, as an example; check which one applies to your transaction.
  • The Canary Islands' IGIC or the IPSI have their own rates: use the custom rate field.
  • It is a calculation aid, not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I work out the net amount if the price already includes VAT?

You divide the total by 1 plus the rate (for example, by 1.21 for 21%). The tool does it for you and shows the net amount and the tax.

Does it work for the Canary Islands' IGIC?

Yes, with the custom rate: type the percentage that applies. The default suggested rates are Spain's general VAT rates.
